Themes & Topics

Themes and topics are important when writing content and drawing up in lists of keywords so therefore are important to SEO. In order to optimise your website fully you need to be adding content to it on a regular basis, but this content needs to be relevant to specific topics and include relative keywords to be worthwhile.

When drawing up the list of keywords, save time later on by putting these keywords into relative groups, or themes. For example if you are selling furniture, your keywords may include sofas, cheap sofas, chairs, dining chairs, tables, dining tables, coffee tables etc so you can break these down into topics like sofas, chairs and tables then list the keywords within each theme. You will still need to list all variations of those keywords, and you should also use LSI terms so bring up Google while you're working and add any suitable LSI terms as you go along.

You can then use this list to apply specific keywords to relevant pages on the website when adding meta data and also when writing content or blogs. You could setup blog categories for each theme and therefore everything on the website will be located in a relevant area, just like the products are put in specific categories, it's important to do the same for content for SEO.

Depending on the amount of keywords and content you're writing you may need to define the themes quite tightly, which would be best for search engine optimisation. Using large, varied themes won't give the same affect. We may talk about relevance a lot but that's what search engines are looking for when ranking your website against your keywords.
