Being W3C Compliant

If you have recently had a website created for your business or looking further into the benefits of search engine optimisation, you may have come across a term called being W3C compliant. Some companies over look this, but it can be a key aspect of helping search engines crawl through your site and improve search rankings.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the main international standards organisation for the World Wide Web (abbreviated WWW or W3). It is arranged as a consortium where member organisations maintain full-time staff for the purpose of working together in the development of standards for the World Wide Web.

The idea behind being W3C compliant is to ensure that websites are achieving certain high industry standards. Prior to its creation, incompatible versions of HTML were offered by different vendors, increasing the potential for inconsistency between web pages. The idea is that all those vendors agree on a set of core principles and components which are supported by everyone.

In terms of SEO, W3C compliance will ensure your site is easily spidered and additionally allow you greater control over which portions of your content are given more weight by the search engines. The easier you can make it for search engines to go through your site, the kinder they will be.
