When you are working to increase the number of backlinks pointing to your website you obviously need to know how many you have and have the ability to check that as you are working on the project. You will also need to know how many your competitors have to create a rough aim for yourself. The best way to check this is to use online tools which can give you the answer in seconds.

There are loads of free and paid online tools that can give you a figure for the number of backlinks pointing to a website, but it's important to check a couple and find one that's giving you the most accurate answer. a couple of those free tools include;

iwebtools

backlink watcher

online utility webmaster tools

We tend to forget these and go straight to the search engines, in the end it's their count that matters. In Google you can find out the number fo links by entering 'links:websiteurl' into the search box, or by signing up to webmaster tools. We find the most accurate tool is Yahoo site explorer which gives you a simple list and number allowing you to select whether or not to include internal or external links which can also be very helpful.
