Localising your SEO efforts can bring huge rewards

The internet has always been a global phenomenon connecting businesses and customers from all over the world. However as this amazing connectivity becomes more and more accepted it becomes obvious that many users are attempting less of the astounding and more of the everyday. Searching cinema timetables, finding a local restaurant or even (thanks to portable internet devices like the iPhone) a place to park in an unfamiliar town (NCP in Berkshire - are you taking notes?)

With companies focusing their Search Engine Optimisation efforts towards ecommerce and global trade it is easy to forget the local business. As we have seen of late forgetting any avenue for new business is a recipe for disaster (and probably bankruptcy) Simply adding a county as a keyword for your SEO efforts can make a huge difference to customer responses.

Now take a customer who has just moved into a nearby village, they have seen enough of their new home to know that there is no chinese restaurant in their own village so how do they find one? By searching for Chinese Restaurant in Berkshire of course!

OK so maybe that was a slightly contrived example but the point I'm trying to make is that even in this enlightened age where the world can be circumnavigated in something less than two days (or 100 minutes if you work for NASA) it is wise to remember that effective, localised SEO can make a huge difference to the business of a barber in Buckinghamshire, a plasterer in Perthshire and yes, even a Chinese restaurant in Berkshire.
