Changes to localising your SEO efforts

As Google and other search engines utilise geolocating via IP more and more, the way we localise SEO work is going to change. While it will still make sense to include addresses and areas of importance in your keywords it will be wise to bear in mind that the search engine is likely to present your site more to your customers based on their location than has previously been possible. This is because the search engines will be identifying the searchers location as a greater influence on the results. The physical location of the business related to a website will then be a determining factor in the ranking of that web page.

There are several ways in which a website can inform the search engine robots of the owner's location, some methods involve including address and contact data as a meta data, formatted similarly to the address book of your computer. Other approaches are more holistic, identifying areas of interest for that company from both its range of contact information and recognisable country and address data within the body of the webpage.

Effectively the SEO industry is waiting to see which format for identifying the area of business for a company will become the norm. Some methods for determining this information could cause smaller companies with a global market to lose page rankings in areas away from their head office, while other methods can recognise the fact that the company is a global concern. Until the search engine providers settle with a particular format in which we can submit location and area of interest data we will be using the current SEO strategies to make sure your site tops the listings and you can bet that when the direction is determined SEO Junkies will be on top of the game for making the required changes.
