While the posts in Twitter are extremely short, SEO principles are highly applicable. As with any Social Networking System there are a variety of do's and don'ts to achieving a high level of recognition. Even at the beginning of your Twittering experience SEO principles will make the most of the posts you make, and as you gain recognition so then the system will really start working for you. Here are some tips for effective twittering:

Use your keywords
Always make sure that your twitter posts include a couple of your keywords and that their content reflects your themes.
Follow relevant threads
Follow members who have similar profiles to your own, there is a higher chance that these people will also follow you in return.
Take note of popular subjects and threads
Where possible try and keep your posts of a similar nature and subject this will give those posts higher relevance.
