Googles Real Time Results

Google have once again improved the relevancy of their search results by adding in realtime results.

What this means is that as RSS feeds (that are relevant to the search topic) will update in realtime while the user is on the search page. This also applies to Twitter feeds and Facebook updates.

The fact that the feeds into this new service include MySpace is worthy of some note as MySpace is actually part of Rupert Mordoch's Media Empire, currently not on the best of terms with Google News. It may be that this new partnership may build some bridges and keep Google in the competition for the global supply of news articles.

So how does this move affect SEO on your site?

This new service should mean that it is going to be incredibly important to update your content regularly, if not rapidly. Attaining a high relevancy and speed of update will mean that your site is much more likely to be noticed by the web crawlers and also by the searchers themselves (in common with the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, Internet Users' vision is movement based. Of great interest is the feeds in from social networks. If you haven't yet explored how social networking can assist your website then get going now. An effective status feed or Twitter feed will double the update rate and keep your presence in the forefront of the user's minds. In fact your tactic here may need to change from a considered approach of SEO friendly updates to a slightly more humanised approach of "Post it as you Feel it" to ensure maximum engagement from what will display to the user as a live feed.
