Google breadcrumb trail

Just as Hansel and Gretal found, Breadcrumb trails are a great way to find your way around. As well as helping fairytale characters escape their evil step-mother breadcrumb trails are helpful in navigating the hierarchy of websites and rarely lead to being imprisoned and eaten by the Wicked Witch.

In a push to capitalise on any useful practices Google are rolling out an enhancement to their Search Engine Results Pages in which the link to the result link is displayed not as an absolute URL but as a breadcrumb trail showing the route back to the website's homepage. Not only does this help the searcher to establish the true relevancy of the result, it also provides a link at each level of the trail, meaning that your information can be accessed directly at any level from Google. In addition if your page is three levels deep within your site's hierarchy then that equates to three backlinks to your site.
