What does a Page One Listing even mean these days

One of the most oft repeated phrases in any blog about Search Engine Optimisation is: “SEO is always changing and developing”. We say it so much because it is so true.

Take the main aim of SEO for instance: “We aim to have you on Page One of the SERPs”. Is that true anymore? Well, yes and no.

Yes. We do aim to put you on page one. Obviously this is where you want to be, on the first page of results to catch most of the searches and the highest click through rate from your organic results.

No. The aim is now much higher. Because Google have added more functionality into their search, and other search engines are prone to banners and other paid advertising it is now more important than ever to put your listing above the fold, i.e. not just on Page one but within results 1-6 of the natural listings. This first set of listings are the only ones visible without scrolling, so these are the ones to go for.

With the need to compete for the top spots on the first page being so acute it is not enough merely to have a fully optimised site. Now we must look to off page factors to really prove to the indexers that your site is the best in its field. Link building, syndication of content and a regular blog are massively important and now you must look to social media optimisation and other internet marketing techniques to really gain and maintain your pagerank.

If that all sounds like too much hard work then talk to SEO Junkies. We are SEO addicts and love nothing more than to see your site right at the top, where it belongs.
