Why you should target long tail keywords

Long tail keywords are generally 3 - 4 keyword phrases which are much more specific to what the user is searching for and what they are looking to buy. In most cases long tail keywords are more likely to lead and convert to sales than the more generic searches as users who enter long tail keywords are further along in the buying process.
As well as the financial benefit that long tail keywords bring there is also the aspect that these are easier to rank for on the search engines. As the long tail keywords are more likely to get you up on the search engine rankings quicker that the shorter keywords it is more than worth while to target these in your SEO project at the same time as you are also working for the generic keywords so that you can start to rank as soon as possible.
