Last year saw social media become more and more popular with online businesses and individual people but now the questions is will social media become bigger than search itself?

2009 saw great growth on social media networks such as facebook and twitter with people from all ages setting themselves up with a fan page. Some statistics have pointed out that in some areas of the world social media sites have in fact received more hits than the search engines and one site even overtook the mighty Google as the most visited site and this type of growth is thought to keep going throughout 2010.

Although the importance of social media and social media optimisation cannot be overlooked search must not be forgotten and will always be the number one thing to optimise for as we will always use search engines to search for find what we are looking for. Social media will always be an increasing factor when it comes to SEO so make sure that you don't just optimise your website for the major search engines and keep social media optimisation fresh in your mind.
