Is Facebook the way forward

Social Networking sites have created something of dilemma for etailers over the last year. While it has been obvious that there is a great potential for them to be used to enhance or even drive their marketing strategy, there has been no true rule book for achieving this potential. The only firm advice for etailers on how to pitch their Facebook campaign was to remain personal with it and to not make too much of a sales pitch of the content on Facebook.

For many this tactic seems to have paid off as a recent survey showed that of the visitors to some of the biggest online retail sites over half of those who were active on Facebook had friended or followed the that retailer’s Facebook page. This is a very wide customer base who will then be increasing the word of mouth advertising network for that retailer.

Possibly the most exciting part of this news for any business looking to make an impact on Facebook is the fact that this increase in the network is free and is largely based around action taken by customers rather than by the business. It does seem as though the light touch in Social Network based promotion is paying off greatly and is something that every business really must consider now in an effort to keep up with the competition.
