It is important to remember that search engine optimisation is a marketing programme which is constant and ongoing throughout a website's life.

SEO projects aim to improve a website’s rankings in the natural results that come up in search engine results and these natural results are ranked by the relevancy to the keyword searched.  At the beginning of a project, an optimisation phase would take place where the website is amended to ensure it is SEO friendly.  These changes help to make the site rank well in SERP's but it is not as quick and easy for the changes to come into effect as it may seem.

Good SEO takes a long time and although you will more than likely to see some results immediately, there will not be so much of a dramatic increase in rankings but a slow increase over time.  By getting your SEO done as soon as possible you will get ahead of your competitors and have a higher chance of ranking above them.

Once your SEO project has been completed it is important to keep your site up-to-date, therefore keeping it relevant all the time so search engines can see this when crawling your site. Here are some ways to ensure your site is kept SEO friendly;

- Adding content regularly ensures that your site always is keeping up with any changes in the market or to their products.  Content itself helps to drive SEO as the keyword and relative word density increases.  You can add content in news bulletins, pages of content, text by products, blogs, articles etc

- Checking that any new content is validate and passes coding standards, use this tool to help http://validator.w3.org/

- Submitting your website into directories can increase your backlinks and therefore help your PageRank improve as well as putting your website out there to get more traffic and create more brand awareness
