Meta Description can play a very vital role in your online business. It has little or almost no clout over your SEO ranking but it is the one thing that represents your company first at the event of a search. In more ways than one Meta descriptions acts as the marketing advert for your brand and / or its products or services. When a web user searches on a particular keyword or key phrase, based on your SEO and page ranking you will feature on the search results. But after that if you need to ensure that the user actually sees relevance in your link compelling him or her to see more that’s when you need good advertising words to grab his attention.

Now we must understand that given the main role of Meta descriptions are to share information about your company it is also important that you figure the right way to go about doing same. Some of the commonly followed and understood tips of writing an effective Meta description are length, word effect and style of the description. Length of Meta descriptions are usually at a maximum of 160 characters because search engine like Google stops crawling for anything beyond that in its SEO functions.  Also in terms of word effect, the description must include the keywords without fail to allow it to be cache and made bold by Google, another benefit that will reflect on visibility and CTR of your site.

While SEO is imperative to getting your site noticed, Meta descriptions provide more information to attract them into reading more if used unethically and with ignorance you are looking at nothing but a penalty of getting black listed. That is quite a price to pay so to ensure you avail the benefits of Meta descriptions it is important to understand the dos and the don’ts. For instance using the description as sales snippet that is informative and relevant helps while a meat description that is stuffed with keywords and written with no pattern or relevance can easily get you a penalty. Similarly low quality Meta description is not ideal as it doesn’t speak to the user with clarity that a good quality Meta description does.

Sometimes we are rendered incapable of exploiting the possibilities of benefits derived from Meta descriptions; this is mainly because we are unaware of the right ways and methods to adopt for highest results. Sometimes out Meta descriptions turn out to be unclear, open to varied interpretations and very complicated. All this and more cater to driving users away from your site that towards. Hence the smart thing to do would be to use the help of SEO experts, experts who have studied and researched on this subject.
