A fundamental aspect of SEO is the layout and structure of your site, and yet it is very often overlooked. Additionally, it’s one of the most difficult things to change if it was carried out badly in the first place. Website layout is the way in which you categorise and theme the areas of your website, and how you link them to each other, and where exactly you put the links. A basic idea of site structure can seriously make a difference to your SEO results.
One key factor in site structure is good page layout. An individual page needs to contain text as close to the top of the source code as possible that explains what the website and this particular page is about, including at least 2 keywords. Search Engines won't always crawl the entire page so the significant content needs to be near the top of the page (in terms of the code).
Another important element is good website layout. You need to make the names of links simple so that Users can easily find and understand what is behind them. If you keep the names of the links simple enough for Users to understand then Search Engines will too. Furthermore, layout is a lot to do with how many layers of links you have, and how they connect to each other. It is suggested that websites should not go any further than three layers of links.
If you break up your topics and choose your categories well this can also help to improve your site structure and therefore boost your SEO results. The site should be based around themes. So when you have your key categories all based around different themes and then you have subcategories branching off those main ones you need to make sure they are all grouped together logically. If the subcategory pages are well related to the other pages within that same subcategory, then they will appear more relevant (and Google is all about relevancy).
Ultimately, a website that is structured effectively and easy for Users to find their way around is more likely going to index better with Search Engines.
