Types of Search Engines

There are actually three types of search engines out there on the world wide web.  The question is what is the difference between these search engines when you are looking at search engine optimisation?

Crawler Based Search Engines

These are search engines that create their listings automatically by 'crawling' or 'spidering' the web.  A good example of this type of search engine is Google

Human - Powered Directories

A human-powered directory basically depends on human interaction for it's listings.  A good example of this is an Open Directory

Hybrid Search Engines

In a nutshell a hybrid search engine is a mixture of the two above
