PageRank Tips & Advice

You may have heard that all you need to do is gain hundreds of inbound links pointing to your website and then you'll get the top position on Google. This isn't exactly true. For example, a page with a PR2 (PageRank 2) can get a higher ranking than a page with a PR3 or 4. Therefore it would seem that it's not just the PageRank of a site Google for the most part focuses on when ranking a site for its targeted keywords. Indeed, there are many factors when Google works out your website's rankings in the search engine results pages (SERPs). It is evident that Google looks at three key elements: the number and quality of inbound links the website receives, the anchor text of those links, and historical factors as well.

With historical aspects, Google looks at when the inbound link is actually discovered and whether the link changes over time. In addition, Google look to see how quickly the website gains backlinks from other websites. If a site is seen to get links from other websites too quickly it can result in that site being penalised and even de-indexed by Google. Google like to see the backlinks increasing naturally, so try to make the process look as natural as possible.
