Keywords can be classed as one of the most important parts of any SEO campaign, as at the end of the day it is these words that allow potential customers to find your website when using search engines. When we (the customer) are trying to find a product, service or information via search engines, we enter some general words into the search bar and then usually click through to some of the top ranked results. This is why the first step in any SEO campaign is to find out what exactly are the most valuable keywords related to your website that is going to get you the most relevant visitors. This is when keyword research is applied. Once these keywords have been discovered they should be optimised into your on page content, your meta data, your blogs, and any press releases or articles that you may publish.
For certain industries keywords can sometimes be much more difficult to pin point and use to drive traffic, this is because sometimes products or services can be described in different ways by different people. Obviously search engines are not human, and it is for this reason that they can interpret words differently to how we can mean for them to be. Latent Semantic Indexing or 'LSI' is the creation of word associations within a context, search engines can use LSI to help determine and establish the topic of any content. Search engines use this feature to help itself understand and extract information stored on the website, increasing the likelihood of giving correct results when completing searches.
LSI is also used by search engines when considering and applying Page Rank to websites, as the feature is used to promote how relevant your content is by helping the search engines understand the relationships between the different words.
A further reason why and how using LSI can benefit your SEO campaign is because it allows you to build up content that is fresh, non repetitive and does not duplicate itself. This way it stops search engines from seeing it as appearing spammyy, and will increase the pages relevancy therefore helping increase page rank.
