Effective SEO Requires Good Keywords

Keyword research is the key to a good SEO campaign. After all, if you don’t select the right keywords how do you expect Google users to find you? Search engine marketing requires you to be realistic. If your website is new and your company not well known you won’t be appearing for the most popular search terms any time soon. For instance, if you’re a small independent pet shop who wants to appear in search engines for “pet shop” you won’t be achieving the results you want from your SEO campaign any time soon. So rather than going for the obvious why not choose keywords that are a little less popularly searched for but which you’re more likely to gain the traffic for?

Longtail keywords are often favoured for this reason. The more specific your search term the less competition there will generally be for it. Localising your search term is often a popular choice e.g. “Reading pet shop”. This may seem like a long way around but overall it will make your search engine marketing campaign more effective.
