Keywords for ecommerce

Keywords are possibly the most important factor to consider during search engine optimisation (SEO) of a website. They are the terms that a user would enter into a search engine in order to find what it is that they’re looking for.

However, when we talk about keywords we are not referring to individual words, but rather keyword phrases which may contain several words together. Keywords are like puzzle pieces to the search engines, as every word used on a webpage contributes to the big picture of what a site is all about, making them ideal candidates for SEO. Therefore (used in the appropriate densities) it is these keywords that will ultimately determine how many people you can reach through search engine optimisation.

If you use SEO techniques to construct your keywords, then they can become a very useful tool within ecommerce. When selling online, you ideally want to target those users who are ready to buy and give them a call to action. By targeting specific product keyword phrases (which may include the make or model number) you increase your chances of attracting visitors who are already at the ‘buying’ stage. Even explicitly using the word ‘buy’ in your descriptions can be a great help to your search engine optimisation and, in turn, to your business.
