5 'musts' for effective SEO

These checks take almost no time to implement, but will yield great positive results for your site.
- Use semantic HTML – this will assign appropriate importance to your page’s sections
- Use one h1 tag per page – search engines view the h1 text as the most important thing on you page, so don’t confuse them.
- Make the most of title tags – make sure these contain a keywords and secondary SEO keyword
- Use external CSS and Javascript – this will help your page to load faster and will prevent search engines from crawling your styles and fonts over and over again.
- Be W3C and WAI compliant – this provides a good basis for your search engine optimisation and allows your content to be fully understood by search engines. Find out more about them here.
By following these simple guidelines you can improve your search engine optimisation efforts greatly. Once you have covered the basics you can then move on to more advanced SEO techniques, driving traffic, conversions and hopefully transactions to your site.
