Google SPY World and SEO

Now that Google has integrated its search results with its own social media platform Google+, this search engine giant has even more power to manipulate page rankings for SEO (search engine optimisation.) However, many have criticized Google's action as they believe that this (as well as their new revised privacy policy) gives them too much personal information about their users.

How SEOs found out about Google SPY World

This new feature, entitled Google Search Plus Your World, is already being referred to by its unfortunate acronym of Google SPY World on the webmaster forums. With hundreds, even thousands, of web users visiting these forums, surely it is only a matter of time before the name catches on elsewhere. It could be a mere matter of hours before this become a Twitter hash tag, or a headline on a news feed somewhere. With the 'global village' in the advanced state it is these days, one would have thought that those in charge at Google would have given more thought to naming a feature with such huge potential for change, and for public outcry.

Good news for SEO?

The flip-side of this (slightly worrying) news is that search engine optimisation will be made slightly easier with these changes in place. Whatever the ethics behind Google's changes, there's no denying that businesses employing SEO companies could benefit from pandering to the feature as part of their online marketing campaigns. Doubtless, Google will come out on top as they usually do. It remains up to SEO companies and search engine optimisation experts to decide whether or not to act on the changes.
