Almost anyone who knows anything about SEO (Search engine optimisation) will know that blogging is a crucial aspect, mainly because blogs naturally attract traffic from search engines such as Google and Yahoo. For starters blogs are usually extremely easy to navigate and have the ability to carry internal links through a website. What many people don’t know is what really makes a good blog? Well in this blog we will cover a few of the most important aspect of blogging.

Keywords for your blog

Search engine optimisation is primarily based around the keywords that you choose. When deciding what to write about in your blog you should first decide which keyword or keywords you are going to base it around. Keywords can be a tricky subject and raise many questions, do you aim for a keyword with lots of traffic which you have little or even no chance of ranking well for or do you choose a mid level keyword accumulating less traffic but more relevant traffic? SEO is not always about how much traffic you get but how much relevant traffic you get. Generally you want more relevant traffic to increase CTR (click through rate) and conversion rates. So when looking at keywords try to think about what your customer would search for and use this as the basis for your blog.

When do you post a blog?

Depending on how many blogs you are writing monthly, weekly or daily can vary how often you post a blog. To help spiders crawl your site you should be posting blogs at even intervals. For example if you are posting 4 blogs a month, try to post just one blog a week, rather than all 4 in just one day. Googles spider robots will then recognise that your site is being updated constantly throughout this period. As they index your site regular blog postings will add pages for the robots to crawl create more indexed pages, if your content on these pages is relevant you should start seeing results.

LSI Keywords in Blogging

Once you have decided which keywords work for you and which ones will generate you the most traffic through search engine optimisation, we can then look at other keywords which Google relates to your keywords; these are called LSI (Latent semantic index) keywords. These lexical words are crucial to let Google know that your content is relevant for example if your keyword is “SEO” a LSI keyword might be “search engine marketing”, to write a successful blog you must include these words! Using LSI keywords around your main keyword will also show Google that you are authorative in your industry.

Blogging in depth

If you are going to write a blog you have to give it all you have. There is no beating around the bush on blog writing! Once you have decided your theme or keyword you should write about this subject in depth and not dilute it with different subject. For example in this blog I am writing content about “Blogging and SEO” and nothing else.

Your blog and you!

In conclusion apart from all of the above when writing a blog we should enjoy and understand what we are writing about. Generally if you find your blog boring so will everyone else! If you want your blogs to work for your search engine optimisation campaign make sure they are based around a well picked keyword, post blogs at even intervals and always show your knowledge using LSI keywords!
